Description

The March Hare knows quality fruit when making a mad dash for Mataro

At the end of our old vine garden path there is an historic 'March Hare of the Barossa' Mataro vineyard at Tam and Jesse Auricht near Marananga in the Barossa. After hand picking selected bunches in the last week of March our winemaker Elena Brooks let the whole bunches ferment together in open top fermenters with ambient or 'other people's' yeast.

This wine was hand plunged for 14 days, before basket-pressing into some new but majority old French oak barriques, to then mature for a further 20 in the same oak, before bottling without filtration or fining, to capture the essence of the vineyard. Its time and place, a wish come try and a looking glass, if you will and will reward cellaring and decanting.

Tasting Notes

Opulent, welcoming, round and mouth filling. This overindulgence is saved at the palate’s end with drying tannins and a cleansing lick of acidity. Long and lingering with a taste of plums that remind you of the wines first enticing perfume.
